Computing is a fundamental part of daily life, commerce, and just about every occupation in our modern economy.  It is essential that students are exposed to the field of computer science.  It is foundational in transforming the way a student thinks about the world.  It not only teaches them about technology, it also teaches them how to think differently about any problem.  Computer science puts students on the path toward some of the highest paying, fastest growing jobs in America.

Grade Level: 9-10, Term: All Year, 1 Period (2 credits)
This is a yearlong course consisting of six units, approximately six weeks each. The course was developed around a framework of both computer science content and computational practice. Assignments and instruction are contextualized to be socially relevant and meaningful for diverse students. Units utilize a variety of tools/platforms, and culminate with final projects around the following topics: Human Computer Interaction, Problem Solving, Web Design, Programming, Computing & Data Analysis, and Robotics.

The College Board has proposed a new AP course called AP Computer Science Principles. The course is designed to be far more than a traditional introduction to programming- it is a rigorous, engaging, and approachable course that explores many of the big, foundational ideas fo computing, so that all students understand how these concepts are transforming the world we live in. Topics in this course are The Internet, Digital Information, Algorithms & Programming, Big Data & Privacy, Building Apps, and Create and Explore PT.

CompTIA Security+ SY0-401 exam covers the application of security controls to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability; identification of appropriate technologies and products; troubleshooting security events and incidents, and many more.
Computer Science 1 will utilize Project Lead the Way's STEM curriculum "Computer Science and Software Engineering".
